Too Much

Poetry

I was never good enough.
Never smart enough.
Nor worth the air I breathed.
It was too much
to ask for your love,
when all I ever wanted
was peace and safety.

  1. I love how you can use so few words to punch me in the stomach! (Um, metaphorically speaking, of course.) We’ve all been in this spot, right? Putting ourselves down in order to raise someone else up on a pedestal? I like to think I’ve grown past this . . . .

  2. This is me as the eldest daughter. Even today at age 51. Crazy. And it still continues with my spouse. As the first commenting person said, ‘settling is so easy and I have everything I really need…’

  3. Too many people settle in relationships. They’re like.. this is all I need. I could ask for more but I’m not worth more. As long as I have a home and someone who can take care of me, what do I need attention and love for?

Well written. A marvel in few words.
