Incomplete Puzzle

Poetry

“And, little by little, you took pieces of me
until I wasn’t me anymore.”

Even at such a young age, being in your presence set me on edge. My inner warning bells set to a silent scream. I felt those bells, wracking against my bones. You reminded me of the monsters in my nightmares, yet I was awake, staring you in the face. And, little by little, you took pieces of me until I wasn’t me anymore.
