Haunted Nights

Poetry

“When there’s nothing left
but me and the moon,
I feel you in everything I do.”

Late at night, when there’s nothing left but me and the moon, I feel you in everything I do. I feel the ghost of your lips against mine. The breeze of your fingertips across my exposed skin. I feel your eyes roaming where the moonlight shines. I can hear you whispering in my ear as I breathe you in with a sigh. And all the while, I’m reminded of what it’s like to be without you. I’m reminded of what life is now that you’re gone.

And this. This is what it means to be haunted.

Sometimes I dream
as if I’m living
an alternate reality.
One where you’re gone.
