A little late, again — thanks to a migraine that’s been lingering for the better part of a week now, but I’m here, and that’s what counts.
I do believe that fate can play a part in our lives — most notably with love. While we can find our true partner, there’s no guarantee we ever will. Furthermore, it wouldn’t be likely that we’d know it right away. Of course, the romantic in me wants to believe that if it’s meant to be, we’d know it in those first few moments.
On Twitter, I’ve been taking part in my first-ever fiction prompt during the month of January. I’m sharing them here as well.
Not Zoe. Little Red. He never used my name and I didn’t know why. I didn’t know which was worse, the nickname itself, or the way it sounded as it rolled off his tongue. Like proverbial final nails in the coffin, his low voice and ancient Romanian accent only made it sound better to my ears.
My attraction to him went beyond logic and reason. Especially when I knew it was one-sided. I was a woman and he found my body attractive at times. There was nothing more to it. And yet, it seemed everything he did drew me to him like oxygen to a wildfire.
I wasn’t entirely surprised when Vlad took the seat to my other side, I tried to ignore the faint, distinctive scent of honey and smoldering charcoal that registered to my nose. But, unable to help myself, my eyes slid closed for a moment as I savored it.
It wasn’t until he angled his body toward me and lifted his arm to rest on the back of my tufted red velvet chair that I felt heat rise in my cheeks. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a slow grin spread across his features at my reaction.
Struggling to keep from gritting my teeth from frustration at my body’s betrayal, I forced myself to stay passive, as if I didn’t notice both the blush and his grin.

A lurch of exhilaration hit my stomach as my mind reeled.
I grappled with the concept that I dreamt of an actual person that stood a dozen yards ahead of me.
And that man happened to be a vampire. That part didn’t bother me. I felt no sense of danger from any of the people I could see. Especially not from him.
His brilliant green gaze never faltered from mine and I realized he stopped talking. Then, after several more moments, his mouth moved, but. I didn’t hear what he said. I was too busy watching his lips move to care.
