Soul Honesty

“Won’t you look me in the eye
and tell me you love me?
I want to see the honesty in your soul.”

Darling, won’t you look me in the eye
and tell me you love me?
I want to see the honesty in your soul.
I want to see how deep it goes.
Further than the brilliance of your eyes.
Beneath your skin and beyond your bones.
I want to see infinity. I want to see the stars.
I want to see that through this life
and beyond, that I am yours.
Because that is how I feel for you.

  1. Beautiful poem, full of honest words. And yes, love is that. A strong yearning to see something under the texture of skin, beyond the shallowness. When we love, we put it towards something so vulnerable, though requiring so much trust for its protection.

When a person opens themselves, they are vulnerable. They can cry. Those “stars” you mentioned, might be seen as those tears. Tears are always infinite, because we will recognize that only love can mend what we feel weakens us. That is what I believe to define “beauty”. An opening. A look under the cover of the book, to see the pages, and understand the seemingly infinite words. When we understand, we can mend fragility. We can ease separations and tie together divisions.
