Offerings

“I have nothing to offer but handfuls
of burdens and eyes filled with pain.”

Don’t you see? In some form or another, I’ve always been alone. My soul has always been hiding behind my eyes or between the lines of my words. My heart has been trapped behind prison bars. And my skin has never been innocent.

So, darling, how can you say you love me when I have nothing to offer but handfuls of burdens and eyes filled with pain?

How can you love someone like me?
