“And in the end, I don’t care
what became of you, my monster.
What matters is that you were gone.”
And in the end, I don’t care what became of you. What matters is that you were out of my life. You see, I don’t care that you suffered as a child, too. It was a choice to become a monster. Then to continue being one. So no, I don’t think I’m heartless for refusing to care what happened to you. I just wanted you out of my life for good.

I didn’t care how you left,
not even death,
as long as you stayed gone.

“It was a choice to become a monster. Then to continue being one.” Ditto. So many people use anything to excuse their behavior. Your actions ARE your choice. Some people have it rough and yet become great people. Some people are ill, yet they shine the brightest of lights.

Yes, that’s exactly right. Excuses don’t help anything when you are willfully doing something heinous. Then to continue doing them with the same excuses just doesn’t help anything. I’ve tried to be pretty much the exact opposite of my father to not need any excuses for my actions. Of course, the issues I deal with because of him are a separate issue.
