Fleeting Life

“Because, darling, an eternity
with you is better than a life without you.”

I’m choking back tears again. I suppose I should be used to it by now. To feel as though the brittle wind in winter stole my breath right out of my chest. And right now, in this very moment, I wouldn’t mind if I never inhaled another breath again. Because maybe then my ghost would find you in the afterlife. Maybe a spectre of my former self would be able to cross all boundaries and see you once more. To see that smile upon your face, or to hear your voice telling me how much you love me. In a way, I think it would be worth it. At least then, we could spend eternity together.

Because, darling, an eternity with you is better than a life without you.

Eternity is better than a fleeting life.
