Using Me Was Worth It

Poetry

“Darling, you were the one
that decided that using me
was worth the pain you’d cause.”

Oh but darling, I’ve been hurt worse before. But these fragments of my soul have become too many. You see, I’ve been broken for so long that I don’t know how to hold all these pieces of myself together any longer. Eventually, after so much heartache, loss, and pain — even things that were done with the intention to hurt the most, like a bullet to the heart — eventually, the dam will break.

And the world will come crashing down.

That’s what happened when you decided that your needs mattered more than this broken existence. That using me was worth the pain you’d cause.

But I’ll survive this too.
It’s what I do.
Just remember:
this says a lot more
about you
than it does for me.

This was written for day twenty-eight
of November Notes.

  1. When I saw that Hurt was on the list of November Notes, I was wondering what you would write for it.

I loved this piece! Especially how you ended it. It gave me this feeling that, no matter how badly the narrator has been hurt, they will rise about it and continue to survive.
