Couple Things

Random Thoughts

Hello lovelies!

I’m here to make a brief announcement, or divulge a bit of news, if you will. Well, perhaps more than one.

First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you for you unwavering support. I’m honored to know that you are here.

Ever since the end of March, I’ve had a migraine. Yes, you read that right. A little over two months later, I still can’t kick it. I may have some days where I’m semi-functional, but for the most part, I’m in pain. Lots and lots of pain.

Because of this, I’m not commenting as much as I should (please forgive me for that), I’ve completely missed my next novel deadline and have resigned myself to letting it remain that way until I can safely say, all is well. My next poetry book is also moving along much slower than anticipated. And finally, I feel more and more with each passing day, how much my lack of participation is weighing on me.

I thrive on writing. It helps keep me centered and somewhat in control of my uncontrollable complex PTSD. And these past few weeks have been especially hard on me. I miss it. So much. And I hope to come back to it sooner rather than later.

Though I have managed to keep writing poetry, I’ve only barely been keeping up. And I’m now bleeding my Mental Awareness Month discussions about Thirteen Reasons Why into June, and possibly, at this rate, into July. If you’re still reading them, thank you for your patience as I try to get them written with some semblance of logic.

I have a couple days before I have to prepare the next newsletter, and I’m already dreading it. Not necessarily because of my head, but partially. With this migraine (and terrible cold/bronchitis/asthma fiasco) I’ve been to the ER several times and have had multiple appointments with several different doctors and other officials that could offer me some relief. I’m simply not sure if I’ll complete that newsletter on time. But, alas, I’m still trying my best.

Lastly, I wanted to note that the WordPress reader is acting up, and I believe it has been for a few weeks now. Rather than telling me that more posts from blogs that I follow can be loaded, it’s just continuing on as if I haven’t missed a thing, but I know I have. To those of you I’ve missed, I sincerely apologize. Please let me know if there was something important that I didn’t see, and I’ll catch up as fast as I can. Same goes for comments left fore. I know I’m not as quick to respond as usual, and I apologize for that.

There you go, I think that about covers it.

Take  care everyone, and I hope to be up to full speed soon.

  2. I hope you get better soon. I know it’s awful. I’ve been too sickly, too. Now with bronchitis and something went wrong and back on my “happy pills”. Hugs. xxx

    1. Thank you so much. Unfortunately, with my complex PTSD, there’s not much the doctors can do. Most of my migraines are triggered by stress and muscle tension, so there’s only so much medicine can do to relieve it. Being sick on top of a wounded back just compounds the situation tenfold.

      1. Sending lots of empathy. (I deal with chronic back pain plus fibromyalgia so know how frustrating it is when you can’t do the things you have a passion for. Sometimes it seems that writers suffer more than others.) Wishing you some better days ahead, and at least some resolution to the PTSD. Have you tried meditation? I’ve found that combined with acupuncture can give some temporary relief at least to the muscle tension and anxiety. Do you have TMJ too? Hopefully not.

  3. Take all the time you need, Sarah. I’ve also noticed the WordPress reader is acting wonky. I hope they fix it soon, and please, take care of your health =) Your wellbeing is more important than updates.

    1. Thanks, love. I have these self-imposed deadlines and guidelines I should follow to not feel like a total failure. This is the last of them, and I’m doing my best not to break it. 🙂

  4. I’m so sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well. I give you a whole bunch of kudos for being able to still write and post with all of that going on. I hope you get better soon.

As for the Reader issue, I did notice that there were a couple of my posts that slipped past you, but I just assumed that it was because I was posting way too fast and furious. 😆

  5. Poor you. Sounds like you’ve got too much on your plate. Be kind to yourself. I was off here for weeks and felt guilty at not reading blogs (sorry) but then realised I just couldn’t do it. I was kinder to myself after that.

  9. Oh Sarah, my dear friend, please don’t stretch yourself too thin and take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally first and foremost ❤ I have friends who suffer from debilitating migraines (genetics) and I see how painful it is to function on the bad days. And that's just the tip of the iceberg for you, it seems like. I'm so sorry to hear that you have been suffering this whole time, and please know you have my best wishes and hopes that you will return to your healthy normal ❤

  10. As a teenager, i was beset with three month long migraines. After many hospital visits and nutrition programs, I found a local doctor who rather casually said it was probably a hormone issue. He gave me the steroid Prednisone, and the migraines disappeared as if by a miracle. It turned out to be a case of hormonal imbalance which the prednisone cured. You may want to look into that…

  11. Sorry you’ve not been well Sarah, I’ve had a headache on and off for weeks which is driving me mad let alone coping with a migraine. I hope you’re back to full good health soon. I wouldn’t worry about what you might have missed, worrying isn’t going to help you recover. Love and healing Liza xx

  12. so sorry about the migraine love, I know from experience. Hope you find some relief. They have me on propranolol and sumatriptan. It’s been working pretty well, so I would recommend if your dr. hasn’t tried it.

  13. I feel you on the migraines. I get them on occasion, and if I’m in time, I can pop 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen, and stop it in its tracks. But if I can’t get to medicine in time, it’s blinding pain and vomiting. I’ve actually taken to carrying a small amount of paracetamol/ibuprofen around with me, just in case of emergencies. It’s nothing on the scale of what you experience, but a friend of mine does suffer from long-term cluster headaches which leave her in tears, so I can totally sympathise.

Happy to hear (in a warped way?) I’m not the only one having problems with the WP reader. It basically missed over 2 weeks of posts from my followed blogs, giving me nothing between 9th and 29th May. Very worrying.

Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest, and I hope you’re feeling better after a little self-TLC! 🙂

      1. You might know it as Tylenol or Panadol. I find a combination of paracetamol and a NSAID like ibuprofen is best for stopping a migraine from forming, but if the migraine hits, I just have to take codeine and wait in pain until that kicks in. My friend who suffers cluster headaches doesn’t find any painkillers helpful at all, which is really sad. Unfortunately, the brain is still a very mysterious place, and it may be a long time before we know why painkilling drugs help some people but not others. 😦 Hang in there!

      2. Oh, I see. I usually don’t mix tylenol with aleve or ibuprofin, but I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try. Usually I pick one and pair it up with benadryl. Sometimes it takes the edge off, sometimes not. And from my experience the heavy painkillers might kick the pain for a few hours, but the rebound is often much worse than the original migraine, so I avoid it if I can.

      3. That’s definitely a wise philosophy. When the “cure” is worse than the pain, you have to wonder if it’s even worth a momentary reprieve. The lower strength of paracetamol and ibuprofen are pretty mild painkillers (here, at least) so are safe to take together for short term use. I can’t imagine how horrible it would be to suffer the migraines long term, like you. 😦
