Stratosphere I

Poetry

“I remember
flying in your
stratosphere,
riding the high
that was you.”

I remember flying in your stratosphere, riding the high that was you. Your eyes. Everything about you screamed to me, “He’s too good for you,” or, “How could I ever be enough?” But the worst was, “I’ll ruin him.”

Though I wasn’t sure why those thoughts hit me in those perfect moments we shared, but they were there, lurking beneath the surface of my eyes.

Could you see it? Could you tell how much I feared I would hurt you?

  1. The line “I’ll ruin him” is so telling. The others are generalized fears, but it seems like something specific has to cause her to think that. Not that it would be a legitimate fear, but it makes me wonder why she thinks she’ll ruin him.

    1. “I’ll ruin him” is like a step beyond the other two fears. Or her one true fear. That she is going to totally ruin everything good going on between them. 😦 (Her being the narrator of the poem. Just clarifying 😉 )
