Varnish

This surface
is worn, tattered,
and cracked in places,
evidence of all
the times
I’ve been
walked over.

I think I’m overdue
for some sealant and a shine.
Find yourself another route.

  1. I like the last line, “Find yourself another route.” It really drives home the point, and even develops the meaning of the poem a little more. In the beginning, it could be someone being a pushover, letting people walk all over them, but the last line makes it more pointed. It’s one person in particular. Great job.
