People pleasing disease can be more killing than cancer. It usually leads to manipulation and resentment. Human can be insatiable and pleasing someone can be strenuous unless the person is pleased and happy inside out.
Absolutely depicted the pain of the impossible, the inevitable in some situations, even the acceptance (the most painful part) the awakening to truth and reality. It’s an incredible piece.
If you had stopped this piece at “but nothing was good enough”, that would have been fine and sad on its own. But “It wasn’t possible.” moves the piece into full “Oh my gosh ouch in the heart!” territory and completes it just right.
Your words leave a feeling of emptiness Sarah. We waste so much energy in scenarios like these and it can be a long journey before we start to redress the unbalance.
Its time to focus on your own happiness, my dear

Learning to accept what’s possible is so hard but it’s the one lesson we need most in life.

I understand. Most of us know from experience what this is like, and unfortunately it’s usually a hard lesson.

I couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately this is something we tend to learn the hard way.

Yea, but it takes courage to break free from people pleasing disease. I’ve been there and I’m grateful that I’m now free from it. 🙂

the last line suggests an acceptance of the inevitable that belies the poem’s title. no one has to beg to be loved.

I’m glad you caught that. When we seek love from the wrong people, we essentially beg for what doesn’t or won’t exist.

Thank you so much! I wanted that extra oomph in there, sort of like the last nail in the coffin.
