I stared into that white
wall for so long,
I began to see words,
faces, and motion.
But no one seemed
to notice, let alone care,
that my wall was more
of a reality to me than
anything else ever was.

Sarah I am reminded of the wall of Pink Floyd but then it’s a different wall. I really love the way you have rendered personification. You write so well, Anand Bose from Kerala

Seriously, how do you come up with these little write? Do they come naturally to you?
This was amazing. I love it. One of your best.

They’re little prompts I run with. I list them at the bottom. 😊 the title reminded me of The Yellow Room and how in the old Victorian era, men used to lock away their ‘disappointments’, typically making them mad if they weren’t already.

So evocative especially the bit about no-one seeming to notice. Once again you reach such depth in a small amount of lines.

Who can truly say which reality is more real? I think more people are kind of retreating inside their shells. Living in their perfect worlds where nothing can go wrong (borrowed some lyrics here).

My characters feel more real to me than almost anything. So I definitely understand.

I love the way you express so much in so little words. Any pointers?? I would love to know what you think of my writing

Practice. I took an idea and wrote it out, and then I edited, talking away words that were excessive, swapping for others that had more impact, and did it without taking away the actual intended meaning or effect. It took about a year to figure it out and now it’s not so difficult. 😊 I’ll have a look and give you my thoughts.

That’s a good practice. I am trying to move from prose to poetry so the transition might take a little time…

you’ve reached your brink when writings appear on the walls. but like this piece underlines, the most disorienting feeling is the neglect of the plea, “my madness is real.” i like the dual imagery of innocence and mental disorientation that white connotes in this piece. well done, Sarah.
