Cool, tepid waters undulated around her bare legs, sending delicious shivers up her spine, reminding her of the electricity that hung between her and the one that stole her heart. As she smiled, remembering what it felt like to be alive, the inky surface glittered against the starlight. But it didn’t reveal the millions of tiny, razor sharp teeth that awaited her.

Very pictorial in description! P.S: the title happened to catch my eye, it’s very unusual combination of words.

Great piece of writing. As VictoryInTrouble stated, you lured us in and bam. You got us. Great work.

This story fascinates me. When I first read it, I interpreted it as a story about a girl who lost her humanity, remembering what it was like to be human. Then, when I read it a second time, I took it as a story about a girl in love who’s ignoring her boyfriend’s hidden dark side. Third read…I think it can go either way. 🙂
By the way, I love the picture you attached to this story.

Ah, thank you! I like to leave things open just enough so that readers can make their own interpretations about what is really going on. It’s always a pleasure to hear these alternative viewpoints! 😊

Writing takes a lot of time and conscious effort to develop your ‘voice’ and style. You can do it, and your words will resonate with others. Just don’t give up. Some of my earliest work is absolutely terrible.

Lovely! And nefarious is such a great word – highly under appreciated. 😉

I definitely agree. It was actually what inspired this piece. It seems in today’s society, nefarious isn’t used enough.

Oh, of course! Sometimes a word or a specific phrase will come to mind and I run with it. Those are great moments.
