Eulogy

Here lies a woman
constantly forgotten.
The woman who
cared too much
and tried too hard.
The woman that believed
there was good in the world,
and gave her all selflessly.

Here’s to the woman
that was.
To everything she had,
all she endured,
and all that she lost.

Every day is a battle
to overcome that
awful history.
No matter
how long it takes,
she won’t stop until
she can confidently say,
“He didn’t win.”

The first step
is letting go,
starting fresh.

Until then,
she’s going to repeat it
over and over
like a mantra.

I won.
He didn’t.
